Today we are going to share two very effective and super easy methods for cleaning up to a perfect condition to grimy and dusty window tracks that have gotten particularly dirty during the summer season with all the dust coming in from inside into the house through the open windows. So make sure to take a look at the following two amazing methods and you will be able to easily and quickly get rid of the dirty window tracks and make sure they look like brand new again.

Method 1

One of the most popular methods for cleaning around the house is by using baking soda and white vinegar and the window tracks definitely do not make an exception when it comes to tackling down the dirt. The secret of baking soda and white vinegar is a very effective and great natural substitute for the usual cleaning products you buy from the sore has been out now for a while. All you are going to need for taking care of the dirty window tracks is:

  • A hoover with a crevice tool
  • Distilled white vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • A spray bottle
  • Microfibre cloths
  • An old toothbrush

Start by pouring about a cup of the distilled white vinegar into the spray bottle and make sure the nozzle is set to mist. Use the hoover with the crevice tool attached to it to remove as much of the loose dirt and debris as you can. Then continue with sprinkling a little bit of baking soda along the window tracks and spritz the baking soda with the vinegar to dampen the track. It should go fizzy.

Make sure you are not using too much baking soda because it will react with a violent fizzing to the white vinegar and you will end up with a new mess you need to take care of. Once the baking soda starts fizzing you can use an old toothbrush to loosen and scrub away as much of the debris as possible. Next, wipe the solution away with the help of a microfibre cloth. If you are not happy with the result you can repeat the process until the window tracks are completely clean.

Method 2

If you are lucky enough to own a clothes steamer you probably already know by now that there are many alternative and amazing uses of the tool that you can benefit from and utilising its steaming power for cleaning the window tracks is just one of them. The garment steamer comes in handy for getting rid of the challenging dirt and grime on the window tracks thanks to the amazing power of the steam.

However, there are a few things you should keep in mind. First of all, it is recommended to do a spot test first to prevent any possible issues. Never use the steamer if the windows are cold because the difference in the temperature can lead to the glass cracking. If the window panes and tracks are made from finished wood make sure to avoid steaming them. Do not use the steamer on any surfaces that have been freshly painted, waxed, or polished.

Now when you keep all of the above-said things in mind, make sure to follow the garment steamer’s instructions for adding and heating the water. While the tool is heating, make sure to use your vacuum machine with the crevice tool attached to it to get rid of all the loose dirt and grime. Once the steamer is ready to use you can use it for loosening the stuck-on grime in the window tracks. After steaming you can wipe away the loosened debris with a microfibre cloth. You can repeat all the steps if you are not happy with the result.
